I have seen Banco De Gaia many times when I lived in england and they have been great every time.
Do they ever tour the US? I know they have done extensive tours of Europe.

Re: Do they ever tour the US?
Fri, April 9, 2004 - 8:41 AMThey are coming to the US in the fall (most likely) but dates haven't been confirmed yet.... I think they have to sort out the final US distribution details, and then plan the tour. Toby will most certainly stop in San Francisco, though. -

Re: Do they ever tour the US?
Fri, April 9, 2004 - 9:38 AMGreat,
Last time I saw him was at the Glastonbury Festival (UK) and it was the day before the festival really started, he did a tiny show in a circus tent that only had about 150 people in.
He played later on in the festival in the dance tent to 1000's of people.

Re: Do they ever tour the US?
Mon, April 19, 2004 - 9:55 PMactually, i've seen a whole ensemble cast, with Toby manning the major electronics, but there was a live flutist and someone on guitar when i saw them at the first Coachella. a friend of mine saw a show many years back that had 6 people on stage.
this time around, Toby has a vj coming with him, and they've put together something that samples the aduio from the video (similar to EBN or TinoCorp if you've ever seen them) so it should be a really tight show.
and just to make sure i don't come across as a psycho-fan, i actually work for Six Degrees, which handles stateside distribution of Banco (which is why i have all this juicy info).
release date has been bumped back up to May, and pre-sale may start tomorrow... i'll keep you guys posted. -

Re: Do they ever tour the US?
Mon, April 19, 2004 - 10:15 PMMuch thanks to you Rachel. It is awfully nice to have some insider info! I know that Toby frequently works with other musicians, especially live, but are any of them actually a permanent part of Banco? Or are they just collaborations? I know they are definitley an integral part of the musical magic that he weaves, but I have always considered Banco de Gaia to be Toby Marks...but I guess the mystery is part of the beauty of it all. If we knew exactly what Banco was, then it might not be as fun....Has anyone ever done the "What is Banco de Gaia" game that was on the main website? It was kinda like a Choose Your Own Adventure book that led you through the life of Toby. I don't know if any of the funny paths there were to choose from were true, but it was certainly interesting.
I look forward to more juicy info and I can't wait for the new release. Those radio edits I heard were just enough to whet my appetite. Peese Owt for now....=C -

Re: Do they ever tour the US?
Mon, April 19, 2004 - 11:13 PMthe first time i saw "them" it was toby just by himself ..
however .. EBN opened up for him ..
i thought it was an odd pairing .. but fun none the less :)
and they did have the huge screens of synchronous video working with them for that show .. it was the first time i had seen anything like that .. utterly fascinating .. to date still the best example of that i ever witnessed ..
and this was in 1995 or 1996 .. i forget .. the last train to lhasa tour. -

Re: Do they ever tour the US?
Sat, February 25, 2006 - 12:35 PMBanco de Gaia is just Toby Marks. We often refer to live acts as 'they' because we tend to assume that a live act is more than one person. However, a significant minority of electronic live acts are only one person.

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Do they ever tour the US?
Sat, February 25, 2006 - 5:57 PMThat may be true, but I have seen Toby perform live with other musicians (as rare and wonderful treat!) - if you take a careful look at some of the accredations, he's often got help writing, producing and especially with vocals... Though I agree Toby really is the core of Banco.
